Dr Martin Zaltz Austwick is Course Director of the MRes Spatial Data Science and Visualisation. Martin lectures in data visualization and programming, focusing on the representation of urban-scale data and abstract knowledge networks through animation, mapping, and interactive software tools. He has published work based on network analyses of bicycle flows in cities across the world, and is interested in the use of GPS to map walking routes through London, literary geographies and the science of cities. Dr Zaltz Austwick’s background is in experimental solid-state physics, with experience as a medical laser physicist, leading to a multidisciplinary approach to his research and teaching. He’s active in public engagement for CASA and across the university through audio, video, visualisation, public talks and workshops, and is the voice of CASA’s podcast The Global Lab. In his spare time he is a musician, urban rambler and fan of London bats.
